A Day in Killarney – Philadelphia, PA (1938)

Mr. Fred Weaver lived in at 248 South Third Street in Philadelphia.

This home, an historic federal-style townhouse on “mansion row” of Old City, was built in 1829.

The handsome brick home has a splendid garden in the rear.

In July of 1938, Fred received a postcard from friends who were visiting Ireland.

The face of the postcard is a photograph of a tunnel on the Kenmare Road in Killarney, Ireland.

Killarney is a town in County Kerry – in the southwest region of the Republic of Ireland.

The scene looks cool and refreshing on a day in July.

I am unable to identify the publisher of this nice postcard photograph.

On the reverse, we learn that the travelers are spending a day in Killarney and that everything about the trip so far “has been fine”.

The scrawled signature suggests that the touring couple may have been struggling to complete a large number of greetings to friends and acquaintances back home.

Their names remain undecipherable by me.

Fred seems to have appreciated the charming scene, as he preserved the postcard in good condition throughout his life.
