A Story Without Words – circa 1908

This amusing and suggestive postcard was not mailed.

Consequently, we lack information about the sender, or the location of the woman to whom it was presented.

Sometime around 1908, Miss Jennie McGeehan was given an art postcard.

The face of the postcard is a beautiful painting of a wooded area beside a country lane.

The lane is bordered here by a rail fence; two bicycles are propped against the fence.

It appears as though two cyclists have met here and are engaged in a private meeting in the woods.

The title, “A Story Without Words” suggests the unseen rendezvous may be a lovers’ tryst.

The art was copyright by Keppler & Schwartzman in an unknown year.

The postcard was published by the Anderson Publishing Company; it is part of the “Holiday Series”.

The painting appears to be signed, but I cannot distinguish the artist’s name.

Miss McGeehan preserved the postcard in very good condition throughout her life; we may assume that she was amused by the drawing or that it had sentimental value to her.
