A Valentine for Mrs. Baker – Ashtabula, Ohio (1910)

Mrs. B. H. Baker lived in Ashtabula Harbor, a neighborhood within the port city of Ashtabula on Lake
Erie.

(Ashtabula is in the extreme northeast corner of Ohio, on the border with Pennsylvania.)

On February 14, 1910, Mrs. Baker received a Valentine postcard from Dale and Genevra who lived nearby in the same city of Ashtabula.

The postcard, printed in Germany, bears an embossed drawing of red and white flowers.

The legend reads, “To My Valentine”.

On the reverse, the names of Dale and Genevra are inscribed, but there is no indication of their relationship to Mrs. Baker.

The pretty postcard seems to have delighted Mrs. Baker as it was preserved in an album for many years.

(I removed digitally the disfiguring marks from corner hinges that had anchored the postcard in the album.)

One hopes that the correspondents remained friends and neighbors for many years.
