Miss Edna Royer lived in Clover Creek, a small community that took its name from the 25-mile stream that flows between ridges of the Allegheny Mountains in Blair County of central Pennsylvania.
In 1895, the Rand McNally Atlas recorded 139 residents in this settlement about 15 miles southeast of Altoona.
Clover Creek had a Post Office from 1866-1915.
Today, Clover Creek is within the postal region of Fredericksburg, PA

Sometime around 1910, Edna received a postcard from her friend, Bessie.
The postcard was not mailed, suggesting that Bessie lived nearby.
We may assume that Edna received the postcard in December.
The face of the postcard is framed by a silver border with silvery leaves attached.
In the center of the face is a medallion drawing of a shepherd following a flock of sheep on a lonely, rural road.
Above the medallion is a snowy branch on which finches or wrens are perched.
A printed legend proclaims, “With best New Year Wishes”.
The nice artwork was “Printed in Germany”.
On the reverse, Bessie offers her own greeting:
“I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year”.
Edna preserved the pretty postcard throughout her life.
One hopes that she and Bessie, with all their family and friends, enjoyed a wonderful Christmas.
