Mrs. Hannah Shultz was living in Strasburg, the charming, historic borough a few miles southeast of Lancaster, PA.

In December of 1918, Mrs. Shultz received a Christmas postcard from her niece, Sue. E. Young.
Sue mailed the postcard from another place in Pennsylvania; the postmark is overlaid with the receiving mark at Strasburg.
Mrs. Shultz may have lived previously in Willow Street, a nearby community – her address has been corrected by the postmaster.
The face of the postcard is a medallion drawing of a rural dwelling – the framed scene is surrounded by swirls of holly.
A gilded legend proclaims, “Christmas Greetings”.
In smaller letters, one reads a couplet:
“I wish you a Happy Christmas day,
With memories sweet of the past.”
On the reverse, Sue extends further good wishes:
“We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year”.
Sue closes by identifying herself as, “Your niece”.
Aunt Hannah saved the postcard in good condition throughout her life.
One hopes that she and her niece, and all the members of their families, enjoyed a wonderful Christmas in 1918.
