Clementine at New Year

Clementine Wisner in the New Year – 1907

Miss Clementine Wisner lived in the first block of North Mulberry Street, not far from the famous umbrella factory in Lancaster, PA.

In December of 1907, Clementine received a New Year’s Greeting from her friend, Celia, in Philadelphia.

The postcard, with a decorative border lightly embossed, features a medallion illustration of a rural church.

Although postal regulations in 1907 permitted a message to be written on one-half of the reverse (“the “divided-back”), Celia observed the earlier custom of inscribing her name on the face and writing only the address on the reverse.

Thus, there is no additional information about the friends.

One hopes that Clementine and Celia enjoyed the new year of 1908.

Note: an internet search reveals that Clementine Wisner graduated from the school now known as Millersville University and that she was a school teacher living in Lancaster in 1921.
