Elwood Brown lived in Maywood, one of the smallest incorporated cities in Los Angeles County of California.
In the mid-20th century, there were automobile assembly plants in Maywood.

In December of 1927, Elwood received a postcard from Mrs. Robert Boyer.
Mrs. Boyer wrote from Huntington Park, a city in south-central Los Angeles; the city of Huntington Park borders the city of Maywood.
Before World War II, Huntington Park was a streetcar suburb of working -class factory workers.

It seems that Elwood was absent from Sunday School on the “last Lord’s Day”, and that Mrs. Boyer was the Sunday School teacher or Superintendent.
The face of the postcard displays a circular medallion of a hazy, tree-shaded lake.
Beside the lovely scene is a printed verse from St. Paul’s Epistle to the Romans.
The postcard was published by the Standard Publishing Company of Cincinnati, Ohio.
This company has an interesting connection to the Revival Movement of the latter 19th century and was ecumenical in outlook.

On the reverse, Mrs. Boyer reminds Elwood that the Class Meeting, with election of officers, will occur “next Tuesday, December 13.”
There will be a “social time”, and Mrs. Boyer urges Elwood – “Be sure and come.”
One hopes that Elwood participated in the social event and enjoyed his experience in the Sunday School.
