Grandma Sends Some Chicks to Chester – Pittstown, NJ (circa 1910)

Chester E. Piell lived in Pittstown, an unincorporated community in west-central New Jersey.

At Easter in a year near 1910, Chester received a postcard greeting from Grandma.

The postcard was not mailed; it may be that Grandma lived nearby or that she visited on Easter Day.

The face of the postcard is a delightful drawing of little chicks.

The images are lightly-embossed.

Above, six chicks are bursting through a shell.

Below, two more chicks are sitting in a nest – from which they observe a ninth chick standing beside the surrounding blossoms.

A legend, “Easter Greetings” appears at the top of the drawing.

The postcard was printed in Saxony and published by the English firm of Raphael Tuck & Sons.

I do not see an indication of the artist.

On the reverse, Grandma writes: “Wishing you many more happy Easters”.

We, too, hope that Chester and his Grandma enjoyed this and many more Easters.
