“Great Games in York” – circa 1910
I believe that this is a comic card, picturing a card shark luring pedestrians to a rigged game.
The scene would not be representative of a particular place; a printer would add the names of local towns.
Nevertheless, I will share the postcard to The Retro York group; someone may remember if games of chance were ever offered on city sidewalks.
This postcard was mailed from Lancaster, PA on October 9 of 1908 or 1913.
The postmark is indistinct, so I have labeled it “circa 1910”.
Addressed to John Martin of Marticville, the postcard lacks identification of the sender.
A cryptic message, “Clubs are Trump”, is the only inscription in the “Correspondence” section of the divided back.
