“Little” Harrison Writes to Uncle Joe – circa 1910

Uncle Joe was celebrating a birthday and his nephew, Harrison, sent to him a beautiful postcard.

The embossed postcard features large sunflowers atop a rural scene, framed in gold.

On the reverse, a bit of verse is inscribed:

Apples are good,
Peaches are better,
If you love me,
Answer my letter”.

A more personal note is added, “Wishing you a happy birthday, good night Uncle.”

The message is signed, “Your little nephew, Harrison.”

One does not know how old young Harrison would be at the time the postcard was given (it was not mailed).

It is possible that an adult wrote the message on his behalf – the handwriting looks more accomplished than that of many youngsters.

Also, I never met a boy who wanted to describe himself as “your little (anything)”.

The postcard is well-illustrated and printed sharply.

It seems that Uncle Joe preserved it well.
