Marie in Minneapolis – Minnesota, circa 1910

There are several websites devoted to the photography studio of Gerlach which operated on South Washington Street in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Gerlach Studio made thousands of portraits, pictures of city landmarks, and photographs of civic events.

I found recently this studio portrait of a girl, Marie Scheffer.

Although printed on a postcard, the portrait was never mailed.

A thoughtful soul inscribed on the reverse the name, “Marie Scheffer”.

Marie is sporting a large hat and what appears to be a coat. (At first glance, I thought she was wearing a large, shapeless dress.)

But she has a brave smile – and one hopes that she lived happily and successfully in the years of the twentieth century.
