“Mother & Daughter Day” in May – Conestoga, PA (1918)

On Sunday, May 12, Bethany United Evangelical Church was celebrating “Mother & Daughter Day“ – the celebrations took place during Sunday School and during the morning Worship service.

Postcard announcements were mailed to members and friends of the congregation.

Mrs. Andrew Kulp received an announcement at her home on South Prince Street in Lancaster.

The postcard invitation was signed by Mary E. Swope, Home Department Superintendent.

The face of the postcard is a lovely painting of a rural scene in Autumn.

Published by the Westminster Press, the postcard could have been printed with a variety of Church announcements.

The only reference I can find to “Bethany United Evangelical Church” is the history of the Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church of Conestoga, PA.

A history of the congregation notes that the “United Evangelical congregations were formed after a split in the Evangelical Association that was founded during the religious “awakening” led by Jacob Albright after the Revolutionary War.

In 1922, the United Evangelical congregations became Evangelical Congregational churches.

One hopes that Mrs. Kulp was able to attend the Mother & Daughter celebration and that she enjoyed the Spring of 1918.
