Mr. R. G. Springsteen lived in Hambletville, a hamlet on Cold Spring Creek in Delaware County of south-central New York.
Hambletville had a Post Office only in the years 1881-1919.
(If this postcard had a receiving postmark in Hambletville, it would be very rare.)

In October of 1912, Mr. Springsteen received a postcard from his niece, Daisy.
Daisy mailed the postcard from Trout Creek, a hamlet within the town limits of Tomkins in Delaware County, NY.
These rural hamlets, not far from the border of Pennsylvania, are about 18 miles apart by road – much closer if you are a crow.

The face of the postcard is a drawing of flowers cascading from a ceramic hanging vase.
This postcard art is quite “busy” – the elaboration of the grain of the wood paneling creates a distracting background.
The ceramic vase is also patterned, with white blossoms on a blue background.
Beneath the drawing, in elaborate script, is the message: “Best Wishes”.
The postcard was printed in Germany.
On the reverse, Daisy greets “Dear Uncle Rob”.
Daisy apologizes that the postcard is “a little late”, but offers “best wishes for many more happy birthdays”.
Daisy concludes her message by signing as, “Your loving niece”.
Mr. Springsteen seems to have appreciated the postcard as he preserved it throughout his life.
One hopes that Mr. Springsteen enjoyed a wonderful birthday, and that he and Daisy maintained an affectionate correspondence for many years.
