Mrs. Durant Returns from the Wedding – Waterbury, Connecticut (1919)

In June of 1919, Mrs. Durant made a trip to attend a wedding.

We do not know whose wedding was being celebrated, but the event seems to have occurred in Waterbury, Connecticut.

Waterbury, a city on the Naugatuck River in central Connecticut, was a US leader in the manufacture of brass ware throughout the first half of the 20th century.

After the wedding ceremony, Mrs. Durant sent a postcard to Mrs. H. L. Bill of Hartford, Connecticut.

Hartford, the capital of Connecticut, is 33 miles northeast of Waterbury.

The face of the postcard is an illustration of a scene in Hamilton Park, a 93-acre preserve of rolling terrain on the Mad River near downtown Waterbury.

Here, a charming wooded trail is seen beside a rushing stream crossed by stone-arch bridge.

The postcard was published by Morris Berman of New Haven, CT.

On the reverse, we learn few details about the visit to Waterbury.

It seems that Mrs. Durant was staying somewhere in town as she reports returning “home” from the wedding – but is now “on our way home.”

I read this as, “we returned back (to our lodging) from the wedding, and are now proceeding homeward.”

If the home of Mrs. Durant is in Hartford, one hopes that Mrs. Bill might soon hear more details about the wedding.
