Mrs. Stanley Receives a Big Bird from Her Sister – Pomeroy, PA (1907)

Mrs. Emmer Stanley lived in Pomeroy, a small community of Chester County in southeast Pennsylvania.

In the golden age of railroads, Pomeroy was the terminus of the Pomeroy & Newark (Delaware) Railroad.

For her birthday, Mrs. Stanley received a colorful and glittering postcard greeting from her sister, Mrs. Alice Harding.

Mrs. Harding lived in Cochranville, a small community in western Chester County, about 6 miles south of Pomeroy.

The postcard, mailed from Cochranville, features a large bird swooping downward toward the viewer.

The bird, and a bordering spray of flowers, is decorated with glitter.

The postcard was printed in Europe, although neither a printer nor a publisher is named. (There is an insignia on the reverse.)

On the reverse, Alice expresses “kind remembrance and best wishes” on her sister’s birthday.

It seems that Mrs. Stanley was pleased with the postcard as it was preserved in good condition for a hundred and fifteen years.
