“My Beloved Brother” – Sister Sends Birthday Greetings to Last Surviving Brother, 1922

Martin K. Brubaker was a prosperous farmer, business owner, and local official in Mount Joy. (See, “Annals of Lancaster County”)

His two brothers had died, but Martin had a sister who lived in New York City.

For his birthday, Martin received a postcard from his sister.

The postcard, printed in the United States, features a copyrighted drawing of a girl in a punt.

The postcard was mailed from New York.
In the postcard message, Martin’s sister writes, “I used to have three brothers to whom I wrote on their birthdays…”.

She implores him to “come to our town” and visit her.

I don’t know if Martin was able to make the trip.

Recently, an historical group in Mount Joy offered to give away a large, framed portrait of Martin K. Brubaker.

I find it touching that the memory of Martin K. Brubaker is preserved in this tender postcard from his sister.
