Naomi Dick – York, PA (circa 1915)

In the early years of the twentieth century, the photography studio of Simon & Murnane was located at 227 West Market Street in York, “At the Bridge”.

The studio met the demand for personal photographs that had grown enormously as the practice of exchanging postcard photographs became widely-adopted.

Many photographic portraits from Simon & Murnane can still be found – but few have identifying inscriptions.

On the reverse of this postcard photograph of a young woman, some thoughtful person wrote the name, “Naomi Dick”.

I picked up the postcard in hopes of learning more about her.

Alas, my quick internet search does not identify a person by that name in York County.

Nevertheless, we know that Naomi visited West Market Street sometime around 1915.
