Peace & Goodwill in Your Heart Today – Plainfield, Illinois (1908)

Mrs. Sarah Eldridge lived in Plainfield, a village on the DuPage River in northeastern Illinois.

In the 19th century, the village supplied lumber and other supplies for the building of Chicago to the north.

At Christmas in 1908, Mrs. Eldridge received a postcard from George.

George mailed the postcard from Washington, D.C. on December 18.

Published by the English firm of Raphael Tuck & Sons, the postcard was printed in Bavaria.

On the face, a Christmas verse is printed in bold and colorful letters.

Composed by H. M. Burnside, the verse enjoins the blessings of Peace and Goodwill in one’s heart, in one’s home, and as a theme of the New Year.

There is no clues as to the nature of the relationship between George and Mrs. Eldridge.

One hopes that each of the correspondents found Peace and Goodwill at the celebration of Christmas.
