In May of 1908, the J. V. Fleming Company received a credit statement or receipt from the State Bank of Columbia.
The Bank and the Fleming Company were located in Columbia, now, a census-designated place at the confluence of the Rivanna and James Rivers in Fluvanna County of central Virginia.

Although settled by English colonists in the mid-18th century, the town was not incorporated until after the end of the Revolutionary War – in 1788.
The Post Office was established in 1792
The town prospered as a point of trade between Richmond and Lynchburg on the James River and between those cities and Charlottesville on the Rivanna River.
Columbia was a major port for shipping tobacco and operated its own fleet of river craft, “bateaux”.

Economic decline accelerated after the end of railroad service in 1958, floods and fires wrought more destruction thereafter.
Several historic buildings survive, including an important Catholic shrine, bult by English Catholic immigrants (who were staunch abolitionists) in 1833.

This is not the first time we have seen a bank receipt printed on a postcard:
The printed account from the Columbia Bank shows a credit of $106.00 that was posted on May 11.
George Stoneman, Cashier, has signed the form.
The Bank of Columbia no longer exists -there is no banking location in Columbia, Virginia today.
The postcard statements were printed by the S. S. & S. Company of Richmond, VA.

After fruitless searches through scant archival material related to this largely-abandoned place, I have made a tentative identification of the account holder.
Junius V. Fleming (1864-1935) was born, and lived most of his life, in Cumberland County – adjacent to Fluvanna County
Both counties are sparsely-populated areas bordering the James River.
In 1899, Junius Fleming had a son Thomas Fleming, born at Flanagan Mill, Va.
On this Birth Record, Father (Junius) is listed as “Merchant”.
Flanagan Mill is in Cumberland County; the most information I could find about the one-time community is on a Facebook Group devoted to “Abandoned Places in Virginia”.
Unless further information is found, I believe that Junius V. Fleming operated a store or shop in Columbia circa 1908.
