Postcard Painting of Lake George – Prudential Company (circa 1905)

Lake George lies on the eastern border of New York State; it is a long ribbon of water that is now within the enormous Adirondack State Park.

The waterway lies in an Appalachian Valley that was an ancient path between the Hudson River and the St. Lawrence River.

The area is served by rail lines, and lies about halfway between New York City and Montreal.

Lake George drains into Lake Champlain and the St. Lawrence River basin.

The area has been a resort since the 19th century – visitors flocked to hotels and spas, the wealthy built stately country homes in the area.

Many American artists painted at Lake George in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The scene on this postcard is not attributed to an artist.

Like many other charming postcards, this one was published as a business advertisement.

The Prudential Insurance Company of Newark, New Jersey had the postcard printed circa 1905.

The postcard was not mailed; it seems to have been collected and well-preserved by a collector of beautiful scenes.
