Sara Hopes to see Allen – Lebanon, PA (1907)

Sara lived in Lebanon, a city in the Lebanon Valley of south central, Pennsylvania – 26 miles east of
Harrisburg and 28 miles west of Reading.

In 1907, Lebanon was a booming center of manufacturing with a Bethlehem Steel Plant and food
processing operations. (“Lebanon Bologna” was made in the city since the late 18th century).

Allen Noll lived in Fleetwood, PA, which (in 1907) was also a manufacturing center – the Fleetwood
Metal Company was later purchased by Fisher Body Company and eventually integrated into General Motors.

(The Cadillac Fleetwood model was named for the town.)

Fleetwood is northeast of the city of Reading, and about 38 miles from Lebanon.

Allen often traveled to Lebanon by train – so often that Sara thought that the Philadelphia & Reading Depot in Lebanon would be ”a familiar place to you”.

Sara mailed a postcard photograph of the Depot to Allen and asked, “when can I see you in Leb. again?”

The postcard was printed in Germany and published by A. C. Bosselman & Co. of New York.

Alas, young friends in central Pennsylvania can no longer travel between these cities by rail.

One hopes that Sara and Allen enjoyed their association for many years.
