Strawberry Season -Switzerland (circa 1940)

This still-life painting, of a plate of strawberries, is the perfect complement to the warm days of late Spring.

At the farmers’ markets, the vendor’s stalls are now brimming with baskets of bright berries.

Here, the berries are displayed on a lovely platter which is decorated in the blue-and white pattern often associated with the Dutch.

A sugar vessel, with silver spoon, stands nearby.

The art postcard was not mailed, but appears to have been collected by some connoisseur of the strawberry.

The collector preserved the postcard in very good condition.

In earlier postcard stories, we have seen some examples of the fine printing done by the Swiss firm of “Edition Stehli”.

This postcard was printed in Switzerland circa 1940.

The artist’s name is visible in the lower left of the print, but I have not yet identified the maker of the lovely scene.

One hopes that the postcard often served to excite a desire for more strawberries.
