Mr. Harry Pyle lived in Wagontown, an unincorporated community in Chester County of southeast Pennsylvania.
This small community, about 3 miles north of Coatesville, has had a Post Office since 1828.

In October of 1908, Harry received a postcard from Bertha.
Bertha mailed the postcard from another community (the name ends in “burg”) in Pennsylvania – but I cannot distinguish the full name.

The face of the postcard is a lovely drawing of a young couple in a rowboat.
They appear to be rowing n smooth water, perhaps a lake.
The shore is lined with trees, shown with amazing detail in the print.
Unusual for the period, the young woman is manning then oars; she is not dressed for strenuous work.
She is wearing a jacket and a hat with a descending veil.
Her swain is sporting a blazer and tie – possibly a suit.
Between the couple, a small dog keeps watch.
The print legend explains: “She begs him to teach her, how to row”.
This is not the only postcard image we have seen with a young woman asserting her ability to maneuver a boat.
On the reverse, Bertha tells Harry, “I enjoyed your visit Sunday very much”.
Bertha acknowledges that Harry has paid her this attention twice.
Her conclusion seems abrupt, “Such is life”.
The message was sent “Lovingly”, so one hopes that Harry was not discouraged from future visits.
