The Birthday of Florence Vollertsen

Mrs. Frank Vollertsen lived near Rothsville, PA, the small community between Lititz and Akron on the Rothsville road.

On July 16, 1912, she received a birthday postcard from her friend, W.J.Donnally.

Postmarked in Philadelphia, the postcard contains a view of an English cottage with a colorful garden, and a birthday verse.

The artwork was copyrighted by John Winsch, a prolific postcard artist, in 1910.

The postcard was printed in Germany.

A quick internet search reveals that Frank Vollertsen and his wife, Florence, lived and died near Rothsville.

Frank died in 1959 at age 83; Florence, who received this birthday greeting, died in 1956 at age 71.

Florence turned 28 in 1912.
