The Dye’s Send Kind Thoughts at Christmas – Los Angeles, California (1921)

Robert and Josie O’Hara lived in Los Angeles.

In December of 1921, the O’Hara family received a Christmas postcard from “the Dyes”.

The postcard was mailed from Palo Alto, a city at the southwestern border of San Francisco Bay -about 33 miles south of the city of San Francisco.

(Palo Alto is the home of Stanford University, established as a memorial to 16-year-old Leland Stanford Jr. who died of typhus in 1891.)

“The Dyes” may represent the family of the O’Hara’s married daughter – the postcard message begins, Dear Folks”.

In the message, Robert and Josie learn that E. A, had come to visit and had been feeling “very bad”

Fortunately, the situation is now improved.

This December brought many rainy days to Palo Alto, but the Dyes express a hope that the Christmas season will be happy for the O’Hara family.

The face of the postcard is illustrated by a snow-covered cottage and a large lantern surrounded by a legend that communicates “Kind thoughts and best wishes” for a “cheery Christmas”.

One hopes that the Dyes, and the O’Hara family, did enjoy a cheery Christmas and that they appreciated the kind thoughts that prompted the postcard greeting.
