The Remarkable Pool at Maple Grove

The largest swimming pool in Pennsylvania, at 1.5 million gallons of water, opened to the public in 1912.

This hand-colored photograph was printed circa 1920.

Although It is unlikely she ever visited the swimming pool, my grandmother kept this postcard among a small collection of cards and clippings.

The great bathing resort is gone.

Floods led to a long period of decay. Much of the area was filled in for building development – a shopping plaza covers part of the former recreation area today.

Older residents of central Pennsylvania still remember the crowds that once swam and played at Maple Grove.
