The Swannanoa River

The Swannanoa River – North Carolina (circa 1935) The Swannanoa River arises near Black Mountain, NC and flows westward through a picturesque valley to Asheville, NC.

It was the heartland of the Cherokee people and an earlier indigenous people.

A large constructed mound in the Swannanoa Valley has been excavated recently by archeologists.

This linen postcard was never mailed, but stored with other unused postcards.

It is in pristine condition.

The lovely watery scene was “in the backyard” of one of the greatest American publishers of linen postcards.

The Asheville Postcard Company (Asheville, North Carolina) was founded in 1910, but grew in size and importance with the introduction of “linen” postcards in the 1930’s.

This view of the Swannanoa River is a good example of the company’s artistry.
