The Two Young Women – circa 1920

This postcard photograph lacks any indication of time or place; the identities of the women are also unrecorded.

They are dressed similarly, and have some shared features.

Are they sisters?

When I first saw the picture, I thought the two might be wearing a uniform of some kind, but a closer look suggests this is not so.

The dresses are not alike.

It is tempting to speculate about the occasion for the photograph – a visit, a memorable event, an upcoming departure for a trip or for marriage.

One hopes that the attractive women had happiness and success in their future.
