This postcard photograph was not mailed, and it has no inscription at all on the reverse.
The lower right corner has the embossed name of the studio -the Prince studio of Los Angeles.
Sometime around 1910, two women posed at the Prince Studio for a postcard photograph.
We do not know if they lived in the growing metropolis or if they were visiting the city.
They are attired similarly, with white shirtwaists embellished with lace.
Both wear their hair “up”, the prevailing style for another ten years.
Their expressions, however, are different.
The taller woman shows the inflexible, stern expression that was common when picture-taking required some time without movement.
The shorter women presents a small smile, which appears less formal and more inviting.
I wish that there were some clues that would help us imagine the lives of these women of the early 20th century.
One hopes that they enjoyed Los Angeles and found success and happiness in the years to come.
