Mrs. Melvin Johnson lived in Bellows Falls, an incorporated village on the Connecticut River in east- central Vermont.
(This colorful village still has an opera house and an historic railroad.)

In April of 1910, Mrs. Johnson received a postcard with the sobering news that Uncle George passed away on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
(Uncle George died on April 10; the announcement was postmarked on the 11th; is likely that the postcard reached Mrs. Johnson the next day, April 12.)
The Postal Card was printed by the USPS with a stamp honoring former President McKinley.
Hattie(?) Lane Walker wrote the postcard for Aunt Ruth, who we may assume is the bereaved widow of Uncle George.
The helpful Hattie may be another niece or other family member.
Uncle George and Aunt Ruth lived in Candia, a town in southeast New Hampshire.
In 1910, the town was served by a railway between the cities of Portsmouth and Manchester.

The funeral is planned ”at the house” on Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
Candia is 90 miles to the east of Bellows Falls – I do not know if there were train connections that would enable Mrs. Johnson to attend the funeral.
One hopes that the Spring of 1910 brought comfort and peace to those who mourned the death of Uncle George.
