Mrs. Arthur Kendrick (Florence) lived in East Orange, a city in Essex County of northeast New jersey.
The first European settlement in this area was a community of 30 families from New Haven, Ct who sailed to this spot on the Passaic River and founded a town in 1666.
Once a wealthy city of sizable homes and many city parks, East Orange today is a working class community.

In October of 1937, Florence received a postcard from Violet.
Violet mailed the postcard from Neffsville, once a pleasant village mid-way between the city of Lancaster and the borough of Lititz, in Lancaster County of southeast PA.

The face of the postcard is a photograph of the “Moravian Church and Parsonage” in Lititz.

This handsome structure was erected in 1787 and served the Moravian community that had established the town in 1756.

On the reverse, Violet greets, “Dear Florence”.
Violet continues, “Sorry you had a bad cold” and “hope it is better by this time”.
Violet and Harry, presumably her husband, “are spending the week-end at Harry’s sister’s.”
In Neffsville, “it is a glorious day” and “we are enjoying it”.
The postcard was sent with “Love”.
Florence preserved the postcard throughout her life.
One hopes that Violet and Harry enjoyed their weekend visit, and that they maintained a long postcard correspondence with Florence.
