In April of 1901, Nellie received a postcard from an unidentified correspondent in Greensburg, PA.

Greensburg, a city in the Laurel Highlands of the Allegheny Mountains, lies about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

The face of the postcard is an ink drawing of a man and woman, attired in wedding garb, standing before a clergyman.

The printed legend (largely unpunctuated) asks, “Not Yet but Soon Yes?”

Without any clues as to the sender, one might assume that this was the sentiment of a suitor who was eager to be married.

Although the postcard greeting may be a bit of teasing by a friend of Nellie, one wonders if Nellie had a serious beau who would like to propose marriage.

The postcard lacks any clues at all about its provenance; it seems clear that it was made in the US, possibly by a local newspaper office or independent printer.

Nellie preserved the postcard in good condition throughout her life.

One hopes that she found happiness in her marriage or in whatever status she chose.
