Mr. Charles Nagel lived in Lancaster, the historic and prosperous city in southeast Pennsylvania.

It is very difficult to read the hand-written address – I believe that Mr. Nagel lived at 432 “Chester Street”.
Number 432 was erected in 1857 – it is now a multi-family dwelling.

In June of 1909, Charles received a postcard from his daughter, Adeline.
Adeline mailed the postcard from Cleveland, the center of industry, transportation, and culture in northeast Ohio.

The face of the postcard is a flowery graphic design that honors, “My Dear Dad”.
The word, “Dad” is composed of tiny blossoms, possibly forget-me-nots.
Leaves, large pink blossoms, and other flowers surround the word.
I believe that the postcard was printed in the United /States.
There are faint and blurred letters under the first “D” of “Dad”, but I cannot decipher them.
I imagine that this is an artist’s initials or a publisher’s mark.

On the reverse, Adeline has written a touching tribute to her Dad and to her own unhappiness.
Addressing her message to “Dearest father”, Adeline reports that she is well and “hopes this will find you the same”.
Then, Adeline confesses that she is “very homesick to see you, very, very homesick”.
We don’t know the reason for Adeline’s separation from her father, not any details about the duration of her absence.
One hopes that Adeline recovered her good spirits and found many sources of enjoyment in Cleveland.
RESEARCH NOTE
This is a tentative identification as I cannot find substantiation of several key elements of the postcard.
Adeline Fredericka Nagel Kershaw was born in Philadelphia in October of 1892.
She was the daughter of Charles Nagel and Rose Nagel who had been married in Philadelphia.
Since 1900, Adeline was living in Cleveland.
I cannot discover why the girl of 8 was separated from her father.
On New Year’s Day of 1914, Adeline married Sydney Charles Kershaw (1891- 1971) in Victoria, British Columbia.
Adeline and Sydney had six sons and one daughter, all of whom lived to adulthood.
One son was born in Lancaster, PA
At some time, Adeline and Sydney were divorced.
In July of 1974, Adeline died in Cleveland.
She was 81 years old, and survived by 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
