Miss Anna Wallner lived in New Bedford, the port city in south-east Massachusetts that had once been a whaling center for the nation.

In May of 1912, Anna received a postcard from E. L. M.

The postcard was mailed from Providence, the charming capital city of Rhode Island.

It is unclear if the sender lived in Providence, or was visiting that place.

The face of the postcard is an amusing drawing of a quartet of young folks who are engaged in some playful posing.

The two young men have linked arms to create a “cradle” seat for one of the young women.

A bright headline announces, “Having a Jolly Good Time”.

There is no indication of a postcard artist or of a publisher; the postcard seems to have been published in the United States.

One would like to know more about the meaning of the postcard – was the sender commenting on a visit to Providence, suggesting activities to share with Anna, or simply sending a light-hearted greeting.

Anna seems to have enjoyed the jolly greeting as it was preserved in good condition throughout her life.
