A New Heaven and a New Earth – 1901

For Ash Wednesday, I am posting another Sunday School lesson from the Reformed Church-this one published in 1901.

If you were in Sunday School in a Reformed Church on June 23, 1901, you were likely to be studying the vision of St. John in the book of Revelation.

Published by the Sunday School Board of the Reformed Church (headquarters on Arch Street in Philadelphia), these colorful cards were powerful aids to memorization.

That so many of them have survived more than a century suggests that many children collected them.

In the comments, I attach the short catechism that is printed on the reverse.

I have no preconceptions about the spiritual or religious commitments of the folks who read these historical posts – but if you are embarking on a Lenten journey, I wish you Godspeed.
