Mrs. Robert Reid lived in Rochelle, a small city in Wilcox County of south-central Georgia.
The community was named for the French city of La Rochelle, although the reasons for this are unclear.

In December of 1913, Mrs. Reid received a Christmas postcard from Mrs. Swanson.
Mrs. Swanson mailed the postcard from Atlanta, the capital of Georgia and a hub of transportation and commerce.

Rochelle is about 155 miles south-southeast of Atlanta.
The face of the postcard is a composite drawing of several parts – a pot of poinsettias dominates the top of the postcard.
Beneath the flowers, in ornate letters, is the message, “A Merry Christmas”.
The lower third of the face is a parchment scroll with a holiday invocation:
“May this day bring merriment,
Loving friends, and sweet content”
On the reverse, Mrs. Swanson makes a hand-written addition:
“A hearty Xmas greeting from your true friend”.
Mrs. Reid preserved the postcard throughout her life.
One hopes that the true fiends enjoyed a splendid Christmas and maintained a postcard correspondence for many years.
