Mrs. Cora Dayton lived in Paw Paw, a picturesque village of lakes on the Paw Paw River in Van Buren County of southwest Michigan.
Today, the area is home to numerous wineries; the village is about 30 miles from Lake Michigan.

In December of 1916, Cora received a Christmas postcard from a friend whose name I cannot decipher.
The friend mailed the greeting from Jackson, a city and County Seat of Jackson County in south-central Michigan.
Located about 82 miles east of Paw Paw, Jackson drew many European immigrants to the area’s automobile factories in the early 20th century.

The face of the postcard shows a white trellis with poinsettia blossoms and sprigs of holly.
A medallion encloses a winter scene of a rural village.
“Greetings for Christmas” is printed in gold letters.
One the reverse, Dora’s friend greets her as “Dear Friend”.
After expressing a hope that Dora is “well and happy”, the writer imagines that Dora is “very busy with Xmas doings”.
“Before very long”, the writer “expects to see (Dora) in Jackson.”
The message was sent “lovingly”.
One hopes that Dora completed her preparations for Christmas, that she was able to see her friend in Jackson, and that the two correspondents enjoyed a wonderful Christmas season.
