A Turkey from “Dear Old Grandma” – Peoria, Ohio (1913)

Miss Mildred Adams lived in Peoria, now an unincorporated community in central Ohio.

Peoria had a post office from 1872 -1967; in the early years of the 20th century, the town served as the only rail station in the area that could accommodate passenger and freight service.

(The mills, stores, churches, railroad station and water tower – all are gone today.)

In November of 1913, Mildred received a Thanksgiving postcard from her grandma.

The face of the postcard features the drawing of a very proud turkey standing between a punch bowl and a pumpkin pie.

I cannot identify the printer or publisher of this very good postcard- which is lightly embossed.

On the reverse, Grandma confesses that it is “kind of late” to be sending the postcards, but she is sending them “anyway”.

Grandma asks Mildred to “answer soon”, and bids farewell as “dear old grandma”.

One hopes that Mildred was delighted by the late remembrance of Thanksgiving, and that she complied with Grandma’s request to answer soon.

Note: There are several persons named “Mildred Adams” living in Ohio in 1910.

I cannot find any clear links to Peoria that would enable us to identify “our” Mildred Adams.
