A Water Lily for Stella – Telford, PA (1910)

Miss Stella Kinsey lived in Telford, a borough that straddles the border of Bucks County and Montgomery County in southeast Pennsylvania.

The area was settled by German Mennonites, beginning in 1719.

In February of 1910, Stella received a postcard from her brother, Elmer.

Elmer wrote from Souderton, a borough of gently rolling hills in Montgomery County, PA.

The first European settlers of this community were Welsh.

Souderton is less than two miles south of Telford.

The face of the postcard is adorned with a bright drawing of water lilies, pink and white.

Beneath the drawing are printed a few lines in praise of these aquatic flowers.

On the reverse, Elmer writes that he is “…to (sic) busy to write a letter. So I thought I would send cards.”

Elmer urges his sister to “come out to Wilson’s on Sunday. So that they can talk to you.”

We do not know what mysterious matter will be discussed; perhaps Stella is looking for employment.

One hopes that Stella enjoyed the floral postcard, that she was able to participate in the discussion on Sunday, and that matter had a successful conclusion.
