Abbie Has a Lot to Tell – Honey Grove, PA (1907)

We were introduced to the town of Honey Grove in an earlier postcard story; a postcard featuring a horse-drawn reaping machine was mailed from this community in 1909.

Honey Grove is an unincorporated community in Juniata County of central Pennsylvania.

Mr. George Seeger lived in Mifflin, a borough in Juniata County that was once a stop on the Pennsylvania Railroad.

(Today, the abandoned tracks still run through the community.)

In July of 1907, George received a postcard greeting from Abbie.

Abbie mailed the postcard from Honey Grove, so we may assume that she lived near that place.

The face of the postcard is a drawing of the decorative plant, “lily of the valley”.

The words, “Greetings from Honey Grove” are inscribed in silver glitter.

On the reverse, Abbie reports that “I missed the morning train” and that she “will be down this afternoon”.

Abbie invites George to “come over tomorrow eve.”

The evening should be interesting to George as Abbie has “a whole lot to tell you”.

One hopes that Abbie and George were able to meet as planned, that Abbie amused George with the news she had to tell, and that the two enjoyed the summer on the green slopes of the Appalachian Mountains in Juniata County.
