Annie Writes from Attleboro

Annie Sends Greetings from Attleboro, Mass. (1907)

Annie Jette lived in Attleboro, a city in southern Massachusetts, closer to Providence, Rhode Island then to Boston.
(Attleboro, originally Attleborough, was settled by English settlers through a compact with local indigenous people in 1634.

In 1907, it was becoming a national center of jewelry manufacturing.)

Like hundreds of thousands of other young people in 1907, Annie belonged to a postcard club.

One of the fellow postcard collectors with whom she exchanged postcards was Mr. Curtis Bernier of Kankakee, Illinois.

In response to a postcard offering of Mr. Bernier, Annie sent this hand-colored photograph of her home town.

The postcard was printed in Germany by the Metropolitan News Company of Boston.

One hopes that Annie and Curtis continued to enjoy their collection of postcards in the early years of the twentieth century.
