Mrs. Maud Jacobs lived in Gobleville, a small city in south-west Michigan.
The city was named for the Goble family who erected the first buildings in the 1860’s; it is now known as “Gobles”.
Until 1922, it was “Gobleville” – although Rose added an extra “s” to the address.
At the end of December in 1908, Maud received a postcard greeting from Rose.
Rose lived in Niles, a city on the St. Joseph River (on the border of Indiana) in southwest Michigan.
The postcard traveled 50 miles north west from Niles to Gobleville.
The face of the postcard is adorned with a drawing of a rural cottage and a bunch of violets against a rich, purple background.
The legend reads, “With Best Christmas Wishes and New Year Greetings”.
On the reverse, Rose offers her own best wishes and promises to “write a letter this week”.
One hopes that Mrs. Jacobs and Rose enjoyed a happy and prosperous 1909.
