Mrs Frank Wetter lived in Watertown, a city on the Rock River in south central Wisconsin.
This area was settled by families from New England, and the schools, and mill industry, reflected Yankee traditions.
In May of 1915, Mrs. Wetter received a richly-embossed postcard for her birthday.
Mrs. Conrad, who mailed the postcard from Watertown, signed only her name on the reverse.
The postcard was printed in Germany, at least a few years earlier – by 1915, the transatlantic postcard industry had been ended by the Great War.
One hopes that the beautiful pansies were pleasing to Mrs. Wetter.
