Donegal Springs – Mount Joy, PA (circa 1939)

In northwest Lancaster County, a thirsty visitor could (through the mid-twentieth century) take a draft from a cold-water spring.

Near the historic Donegal Presbyterian Church (1732) this ancient spring feeds the Donegal Creek.

The Springs were important to the early settlement in the area that is now Mount Joy.

Today, fisherman enjoy the Donegal Creek whose clear, clean water is stocked by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

This black and white postcard photograph was made sometime before the mid-century, but the postcard (not mailed) lacks indicators that would help us establish a date of publication.

A reader identified the make and model of the automobile that is cruising by the entrance to the Springs as dating to the late 1930’s.
