Drinks in the Garden – Lowell, Michigan (circa 1910)

We met Miss L. C. Hyde in earlier postcard stories; she received a postcard from her friend who wrote to her from Belding, Michigan.

Miss Hyde received both postcards while she resided within the the household of Will Condon.

The Condons lived in Lowell, a town on the Grand River -about 15 miles east of Grand Rapids in southwest Michigan.

The face of the postcard is a photograph of a well-dressed couple sharing a bottle of wine in a garden setting.

The man, in a suit, is wearing a straw “boater”.

The woman’s hat is adorned with huge plumes.

A legend is printed beneath the couple, “Alone with a Bird and Bottle”.

On the reverse, the message from Oren has no romantic theme.

He writes, “I am getting better all the time”,  suggesting that he has had a prolonged illness.

One hopes that Miss Hyde was amused by the postcard illustration, that Oren continued to regain his health, and that the siblings remained correspondents for many years.
