Ed Hille – Wisconsin or Indiana, circa 1910

This well-preserved postcard photograph lacks a studio identification, suggesting that it was processed in a small, local shop.

It is a very good photograph, so the unknown photographer had considerable skill.

A thoughtful soul did write the name, “Ed Hille”, on the reverse.

A quick internet search reveals at least two possible identities of the sitter.

Edward Hille, who was born in 1890 and died in 1965, is noted in family genealogy in Indiana.

It is not clear that he lived there.

Edward Johannes Hille was born in 1891 in Shawano, Wisconsin and died in 1984 in Langley, British Columbia.

(Two other men named “Edward Hille”, one in New York City, one in Chicago, could possibly be the sitter although their age range is a bit less likely than that of the first two candidates.)

Label your photographs – they will outlive you by a century or more!
