Miss Florence Cowles lived in Malden, the city built on a wooded, hilly area on the Mystic River northeast of Boston, Massachusetts.

In June of 1914, Miss Cowles received a postcard from Mr. Henry C. Young
Henry mailed the postcard from Florence, the lovely city in Tuscany and one of the art capitals of the world.

The face of the postcard is a photograph of Il Duomo, the magnificent, red-tiled, cathedral of Florence.
The Tuscan landscape can be seen in the distance, stretching from the edge of the city.

On the reverse, Mr. Young writes only, “Greetings from Firenze (Florence)”.
Had Henry added a comma, he could have emphasized the play on the name of Miss Cowles, “Greetings from Florence, Florence”.
The postcard was published by a German firm in Milan.
One hopes that Mr. Young returned safely from his European tour and that he and Miss Cowles had an opportunity to discuss the beauty of Florence.
