Flowers for Miss Keen – Downingtown, PA (1906)

Miss Amy Keen lived in West Chester, the beautiful college town of Chester County in southeast Pennsylvania.,_Pennsylvania

In May of 1906, Amy received a postcard greeting from Alice Groff.

Alice lived in Downingtown, a town (also in Chester County) about 35 miles west of Philadelphia.

Riders traveling on the Main Line from Philadelphia will be familiar with the charming town.,_Pennsylvania

The face of Amy’s postcard is a lovely drawing of flowers in a vase.

The still life is remarkable for the nice treatment of light falling on the stems.

The work was published by the German American Novelty Art Company; the postcard was printed in Germany.

One hopes that Amy was pleased by the postcard art and that she and Alice remained friends and correspondents for many years.
