Mrs. Mary Miller lived in Reading, the prosperous center of industry and transportation in Berks County, PA.

In December of 1924, Mary received a Christmas postcard from Anna.
Anna, who did not inscribe a surname, mailed the postcard from Reading.
We may assume that Anna was a neighbor or nearby friend.
The face of the postcard displays a circular medallion drawing of a rural landscape covered with snow.
A red barn is seen beneath a blanker of white.
Beneath the circle are sprigs of fir and two candles.
A printed blessing invokes holiday joy:
“May Christmas happiness and cheer,
Stay with you through the coming year”.
The postcard was printed and published by the Whitney Company of Worcester, Massachusetts.
On the reverse, Anna expresses her own wish in a brief message:
“Hope Santa will be good to you”.
It seems certain that the wish is playful – neither Mrs. Miller nor Anna is likely to believe in Santa Claus.
One hopes that Anna and Mrs. Miller, and all their friends and family members, enjoyed a wonderful Christmas in 1924.
Note:
Mary Miller lived at 108 Exeter Street.
This pretty brick townhouse was erected in 1901 and is still a single-family dwelling.
