Miss Hattie Dale lived in Grand Rapids, a center of industry and commerce – and of the Dutch Reformed Church.

In August of 1909, Hattie received a postcard from her friend, Mrs. Kingston (?), also of Grand Rapids.
The face of the postcard is a Sunbonnet child creeping toward a bulldog who wears a perplexed canine expression.
Entitled, “Peek-a-Boo”, the illustration was made by Dorothy Dixon – celebrated postcard illustrator.
Copyrighted in 1905 by the Ullman Company of New York, the postcard was one of many by Dixon who was a major producer of Sunbonnet characters (although I do not believe the Sunbonnet theme was exclusively hers.)
On the reverse, Hattie is invited to meet at the lake on Thursday, and to bring a friend along.
One hopes that the friends enjoyed an August excursion to the Lake and that they remained correspondents for many years.
(The address is made to “Haty” which I am assuming is a misrepresentation of “Hattie”.)
